SAT NAV Continues After Switched Off

Anyone experienced this, after setting a destination on my SAT Nav once I am on the final route home, as I know my way I switch off the Sat Nav. But I continue to receive verbal directions, I've checked and it's not the wife!

how do you switch off the satnav?

pressing the button for screen saver, or cancelling the route?
