I bought a cheap car on ebay for the supermarket shopping. I could not bear the thought my Freelander being damaged by an old Cavalier or Escort. If you were to carry out a scientific study, my bet is that the old bangers are always parked next to Freelanders!

I've always thought that the supermarkets should provide extra wide spaces at the far end of the car park for wider vehicles, I wouldn't mind the extra walk for the added peace of mind

This will always be a problem in out of town shopping areas.

Got a pal who used to work for B & Q and whose car was always getting damaged as B & Q do not provide staff car parking. He solved the problem by parking in a remote corner of the car park adjacent to one of their large planter troughs which divide the car park bays and parking diagonally across two bays. Job Done

I now do the same, selfish I know but protecting my hard earned vehicle from shopping trollies and £200.00 banger owners who do not give a S**t.

Get a kid; then you can park in the ultra wide parent a child places. Sorted! Only problem is that they cost even more to keep than repairing damage on the car Rolling Eyes

Nice one Bill Thumbs Up A fellow 2 bay parker.

It does have it's own risks-A pal of mine got a £30 ticket for taking 2 bays at showcase cinema even though it's free-parking and he was at the edge of the car park and it was only 1/4 full.

I don't have kids but I always use a parent and child bay in booths carpark, (the normal space's are extra tiny and there are loads of 4x4s parked and old dears swinging their yaris doors open)) some cheeky cow in a clio with 2 kids about 7 and 8 told me I was a selfish person (like I didn't already know Laughing) I pointed out that the bays are not a perk of havin kids but to allow mothers with pushchairs and prams extra room to maneuver so in fact she was a selfish person too Laughing

P.S. Has anyone ever actually put on a limp after parking in a disabled bay??

The disabled parking bays are normally too close to the shop entrance (here), and the possibility of getting a scrape is even higher as everybody is pushing their shoppers past that parking bay Whistle
I normally park as far away from the entrance as possible and have even started shopping at "those shops" when they are just opening and most other dudes are still eating their breakfast. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
