Just coming up for a 45K service. From previous messages it seems as if most pads are changed at this time. I was planning to renew the brake pads myself, as I don't want a £200 bill for what I could easily do myself in 1 hour and £60-70 of parts.

Should I also change the discs? There is some ware on them, but not excessive for 45K. But they might be very worn by the time they get to 90K (next pad change). Have dealers changed discs where pads have been renewed at 45K?

I am due to change the car in the late summer ish, - so won't be my problem.

I changed my pads at about 38k the discs were fine-landrover pads x2 sets F & R £110 inc trade discount.

I wouldn't bother changing discs if your gettin rid soon

I had new discs at around 18k on the front, suprised was an understatement, but it seems not unusual. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Automatic cars wear the brakes more than an Manual,
In a manual car you use the gears to slow down more and don't creep forward in q's etc with ya foot half on the brake.

Well, look on the positive side.......at least while your cars in the dock your not wearing the new pads out (sorry , but I had to )

Your getting as bad as that B chicken farmer, that's his sort of comment. you can go off people you know You wait till I get it back it will be almost brand new. The only original parts will be the wheels  p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Yesterday I had a 45,000 mile service I expected the pads would need changing, but on picking up the car I was informed that they are 65 to 70% worn & will probably need changing before the next service. A couple of questions.

Are the pads easy to change? ie: is there any tips or tricks to make it easier.

Are the genuine Land Rover Pads any better than alternatives (presuming alternatives are available) What if there were no hypothetical situations?
