Rear Tailgate

Today I tried to open the tailgate, but nothing, it would not open. The only way to open it is via the remote tail gate release. Anybody had the same problem? Its a trip back to the dealers!! GS TD4 Stornoway Grey

I had this problem. I didnt close it hard enough and then it would not open from the remote or from the outside switch. It just kept clicking. I had to get in the back and fold down the seats. A good hard "thump" near the lock sorted it out and it has never happened since. Thumbs Up

Does it have to be a Land Rover approved thump or are there aftermarket versions available?

Best one to get is the Landy one as if the fault continues it is warrantable.....the part number is LR:123TH/UMP.

If this fails, repeat of the first part number plus shout ......Part Number LR: 'Work you stupid b Censored d!!!'

If this again fails, call the service department of your dealer, who will only do what you have just done, but they will repeat this process several times in the privacy of the workshop rather than on your drive in front of the neighbours:whistle: Whistle

Thanks guys, the "thump" did the trick, just make sure that you shut your tailgate yourself. If you let the wife take your landy to Asda with a boot full of shopping and take 6 attempts to force it shut you may have a problem! GS TD4 Stornoway Grey

In all seriousness though guys please get your thump calibrated before performing this operation.

The below is an extract from ISO 9002 and should be followed before applying any Thump;

4.11 Inspection, Measuring and Test Equipment
This section suggests typical equipment to be included within a calibration system.

In establishing the equipment which requires calibration, the following must be considered:
The Standard requires that any Thump used to demonstrate the conformance of product to actual requirements be calibrated, with records traceable back to a nationally recognised hand and arm.

The problem with my tailgate is back again. I opened the drivers door by one press of the fob, and inserted the key to start the car, as i did so the tailgate opened. The tailgate had opened only onto the first latch, and the electronic rear release switch would not work. I then had to push down onto the tailgate to force it shut.
The only way to open the tailgate now is via the fob which fully opens the door. I've tried the thump as described above but it did not work this time. I'll let you know what LR have to say!! GS TD4 Stornoway Grey
