aftermarket xenons

have seen some aftermarket genuine LR xenon, complete with balast.
are they a straight swap, or does the LR need a software update.

i believe you need to speak to sponsor 10forCash to have him switch the cars CCF files so it knows you have the xenons fitted, i don't think a dealer would do this Thumbs Up

use email to contact 10forcash (iain) since he can be all over the country doing what he does best Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

There are problems with Xenon replacements. First you need to have a ballast fitted, if not already. Reasonably cheap from Ebay - 8 quid. Then if you fit yourself, have them properly set via a machine, unless you chance it and try to get them back in their original positions, but then the beam is slightly different, then have a software update to tell the vehicle it has Xenons not Halogen or you'll get a flicker upon lights on. Buy the Winter Pack upon purchase is probably the best option. By law you need headlamp washers, something to do with the muck on the Xenon headlights actually acting as a magnifier and blinding oncoming traffic, then they need to be adaptive unless you have air suspension. Many swear by Xenons, but I don't notice much of a difference on the Disco. Not worth the 1k price ticket.

If you want to be legal, you will also need the ECU for autoleveling and all the associated sensors.
If not, with minimum modifications will work like a charm.

Thaniks some good info here, I have headlamp washers ( does that mean i have a winter pack) , arnt all xenons 'adaptive'...
Will the manual height adjustment me redundant now?

is the ecu integrated into the lens module, or a separate component?
same question for the senors?

thanks

No, you just have, I think, the GS onwards re the headlamp washers. It's only the S that doesn't unless you have a clearview pack i think. The winter pack, about 1k, includes Xenons, heated seats, heated screen washers, heated windscreen off the top of my head. Not all Xenons are adaptive, the Disco has the two options, adaptive and non adaptive. Most of the upgrades are non adaptive simply because to fit adaptive is like a major refit and nearly impossible. The FL2 upgrade I am not sure about, but i'd say it is adaptive, because unlike the disco for non adaptive, it doesn't have the self levelling facility with the air suspension. bit of a clumsy way of putting it. As for your height adjustment, yes I'd say it makes it redundant. i mean if it's adaptive, then whats the need? That said, someone might tell me i am wrong. oh, the ECU is a central component, like a brain that holds all the info to tell the vehicle what to do. you don't get ones in the headlight unit, it's all combined. npinks is right, you might find LR dealers a bit reluctant to upgrade the CCF files. 10forcash or a few other forum members can do it. It requires an expensive bit of kit. It's that or put up with a slight flicker upon turning the lights on. Evidently, it takes a few seconds before the vehicle realises it Xenons not Halogen otherwise.

They are separate components.
The sensors are mounted on the front left and rear left wheels articulations.
The ECU is behind glove box.
Of course, between them is a specific harness that you don't have in this moment, on a non HID lighting system.

quote from Ad57498579's link:-

Therefore a HID headlamp unit sold in the after market should:

1. be type approved to ECE Regulation 98 as a component.

2. when fitted to the vehicle should enable ECE Regulation 48 to be complied with (although no government inspection will take place).

3. Comply with RVLR as far as "use" is concerned.

In practice this means:

1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory.

2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam. At work
