Well of course we also tried all these vehicles and several others (except the CRV) before buying. The Outlander then only had the 2.0 TDi and seemed very sluggish, but the equipment, price and guarantee were very attractive except the hard plastic dash (on the old model). Then being a BMW owner, the X3 seemed the answer, although we stopped off at a Volvo dealer who just by chance had a FL2 demo - one try and you don’t look back

Whats all this looking at all the options available, test driving, waying up which car is better malarky anyway. My car buying history of recent date has gone - Letter from BMW "We are releasing a new car, the 1 series, it's really good honest" (It was something like that) - Well I'm sold, I'll order one. Drove it once at Rockingham raceway and had that for 18 months. 3 kids and their insistance on growing put paid to that. Drove past the Subaru garage walked in and got a Forester XT, had it Prodrive'd (265bhp funny, funny, funny) and drove that for a year, but realised that I was single handlidly paying for the COE of Shell's holiday to Barbados every March. Same dealer, asked him to get me an Smax, drove it once, and had that for 3 years. Letter from LR, that'll do, I fancy a change anyway . Sorry I wasn't aware I was supposed to weigh up the pros and cons.... I've been doing it all wrong!! Anyway, where the hell is the fun in that. If we all did that, everyone would be driving a Golf!!

Important to know is also that in the FL2, this engine utilises a variable geometry turbocharger with overboost function, rather than the twin turbo approach of Peugeot and Citroen. The result is 295 ft·lbf (400 Nm) of torque, although 310 ft·lbf (420 Nm) is temporarily available thanks to the transient overboost function. The same engine with twin turbo develops "only" 370 Nm. |
