I've certainly tried the front recovery point and it works.

Did anyone come up with a more definitive answer for this? I understand from the user manual that using the factory ones shouldn't be used off-road - has anyone tried a snatch recover using them??? is the front of the car still on |

Landrover need to be pressed for an answer on this, to produce an offroad vehicle and say dont use the recover points is daft I appear to be addicted to Landrovers...

ALL landrovers are off-road vehicles, 4x4, Terrain response, locking diffs, etc etc (depending on model). It varies on model from the raw defender to a FFRR vogue but all are capable in the muddy stuff and should be fitted with proper recovery points. I appear to be addicted to Landrovers...

Without wanting to start a polemic, did you notice the diameter of the rear drive halfshafts?

Alex is correct, The fl2 is basically a shopping car that is very good off-road.. if you want to play off road buy a defender type.

Like a defender then? Never heard of an FL breaking half shafts, but known defender problem. Also, previously mentioned snatch recoveries, having seen a defender with a shackle buried in the rear body work, snatch recoveries are dodgy, how ever good your recovery points are, and a last resort. I have seen a winch, not certain its LR approved, but from (I belive from Romanian LR Experience equivelent)
Also, maybe the FL2 isn't as customisable as a Defender, but with its light weight, and good traction control, it'll get some places easier than a defender (like the grass covered hill example used at the Yorks experience centre, where the FL beats everything else there up the hill). As for recovery points, both the Defender and the Discovery list the recovery points for "on-road" use only. So no different from the FL2. Looking at the FL recovery points, I'd trust them. Thanks Rich |

If bull bars are illegal for pedestrian safety reasons, the legality of that winch on UK must be questionable At work

Many moons ago when I had a Freelander1 this question used to be asked alot over on the Freelander Club and the American Freelander forums. LR would never divulge it to the European market BUT under a lot of pressure from US owners who threatened Product Liability cases LR listed it in their USA sales literature.

Hi guys. Well this is interesting. I just went into our local deaership and asked this very question - they looked very confused and went and got the manual so I showed them the warning about the recovery point only being able to be used on road. Then they went and found a manual for a Defender 110 hardtop - IT HAS THE SAME CYA STATEMENT IN IT - so all those saying if you want to go off-road buy a defender can
