Parking Near Schools

I had to go get my son today from nursery school and since they don't provide proper parking facilities the small car park adjacent gets full straight away, (I checked there first, )

So pulling out of the car park, right was a complete line of 20 parked cars on the left of the road, and cars trying to get passed each other, so i turned left towards the school entrance and the Zig-Zag school keep clear road markings.

I drove past the entrance by about 3 car lengths and parked on the opposite side of the road, where the road has no marking at all on that side (but still opposite the zig-zags)

In my opinion i was not on the Keep clear zig-zag markings, nor blocking the entrance or impeding the visibility of the lollipop grandad who gave me a gob full, by saying i couldn't park there as i was opposite zig-zags.

I asked him to issue me with a penalty lollipop if he wanted to if i was parked illegally Rolling Eyes

So what is the actual law on this? Question Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You cannot park on zig-zags for sure, but don't they come in pairs normally (one on each side of the road)? If so, could it be that the you did park on a zig zag but the road was so dirty you couldn't see it?

I wasn't getting in the lollipop mans way i was about 6 or 7 car lengths further down the road from where he does his job, if anything I was slowing cars coming towards him and his jump in front of anything moving ambition for getting knocked down.

From searching, you can actually park on a Zig-Zag unless the council have applied for the road traffic laws or something, so somebody said to somebody else asking the same questions, (but that thread diversed on to white zig zags at zebra crossing and that been an endorsable offence)[sound like they would get on well on here Laughing ]

I would never park on the zig-zags as they are there doing a job, but jobsworth lollipop grandads might get me parking where i did each time from now on due to his attitude if the car parks full Evil or Very Mad Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

tix B/S mate, there would be zig zags there also if this were the case.

Get a copy of the highway code, copy the page relating to this and give it to him along with a big smile, then ALWAYS park there

if he had a heart attack could you be done for "Death by inconsiderate parking" ?

Road markings are the key here is the correct road markings are not there the offense ceases to exist
eg if a sign says park for 20 mins no return for 1 hour but no bay marked out no offence i get to park there all day ! Razz
