As GSTD4-e says the trick to cold weather starting is to push and hold the the start button down (without the foot on the clutch pedal) to bring the ignition on along with the glow plugs, when the dash glow plug light goes out carry on with the usual start proceedure (foot on clutch and press start button), works a treat Wink

Found this out last year with the advice from forum members on here after starting difficulties in last years cold snap.

I tried this the other day when it was cold (-15 C) and yes it did seem to start faster from when I pushed the start button, but I didnt get the glow plug lamp either or any of the other warnings in the display. I guess all you are doing is booting up the electronics in a different way, but as the book does not tell you to start in this way, then why not do it they way we are told Question The time totally used is probably the same anyway Thumbs Up

That was the problem, I was starting it "as the book says" Surprised and i was getting the "lumpy" start syndrome, it would nearly fire up but fail then turn over again several times before she fired up.
By doing it the pre ignition/glow plug way it was fireing up first time. Not sure why the handbook does'nt mention it as I can't see any reason why it should'nt be started that way Wink

Amazing temperatures in Norway indeed ! Shocked

Also in Belgium, it has been a very cold winter up to now. Must be due to the global warming Mr. Green
Last year, it was even colder though. I took the photo below last year in the Ardennes. That night, it was -19 °C and although the Freelander had a hard time, it started the same way as many others described above.

Hi,do they have a type of antifreeze added to the diesel there as over here standard diesel begins to go waxy at -15c which then begins to freeze

The weather has turned much milder now only -8 so I don't expect the lumpy start syndrome as much. Next start I will try your method again and report any acoustic differences compared to what I suspect to be a normal start in these "warmer" temperatures. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I dont know really, but I dont think so. We produce our own petrol & diesel, so I dont know if they make some spescial blendings to cope better with the cold. But wouldn't it ruin the fuel if they added some antifreeze?
I dont know.
We have antifreeze in the watercooler though. -And in the flush-water.

But it is normal summer temperatures now. Only -7C today. I think I may go to the beach tomorrow. Cool 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

A little over overdrive ( Embarassed exaggeration) from my Vestfold colleague, me thinks as beach weather is at least 27 plus degrees away for me anyway Cool

I guess Viking meant windscreen washer anti-freeze and not stuff for stopping the loo freezing (flush-water) Shocked 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I was thinking how you could get antifreeze on to the loo flush but not get it mixed up with drinking water..

Very cold winters due to global warming is possible at least for Western Europe, as the Gulf stream, which brings Europe mild winters, is weakening! Freelander 2 SE 4Td Izmir Blue, Dog cage for Alaskan Malamute, iphone Navigon Navigator

Well the stealers had the car in thurs night fri ,sat and mon dont think they had a idea on the problem they told me that they had charged the battery as it was low on charge and this confuses the ecu on start up but what ever they did it starts better now with no rough running on start up and did a drain test on the battery and that was okay 07my Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Baltic Blue,Privacy Glass,Ebony black leather,Land rover detachable towbar,S/S Side bars,Climair wind deflectors,Bramble Rash,
