Performance info - Diesel

Anyone got a bit more detail than the 0-60 and top speed info provided about the F2s performance?

How nippy is it really? Any reviews with any info. Can it sit at 90-100 on the motorway (Autobahn ) without issues? Whats the 70-90 power band like?

Im used to driving my non 4*4 around and am wondering what I will miss out on with the F2 when I need to use it on road.

Any hep appreciated.

my own view is that 4X4's are not ideal to sit at 90 to 100 mph.

if that was what I needed a car for I would go for a sporty saloon.

As the car (well mine) is a turbo diesel I luv the mid range grunt you get..ok it's not the fastest off the starting blocks but boy when it wants to it can fly. I assume it will got as fast as you want on an autobahn - I've never driven mine anywhere near that and have no intention of doing so for the sake of the amount of time and money I already spend on the 'petrol' station.

There will be better motors for driving at those sort of speeds - in life there are compromises - to get the great ride and 4x4 ability LandRover had to sacrifice the Ferrari characteristics.

I would suggest test drive a FL2 and see how you get on - but you might have to go to Germany to do the test drive you'd like

Ditto, it doesn't rattle or go unstable, at 90mph its very comfortable except when you look at the fuel consumption meter.....

Sits on the motorway at autobahn speeds comfortably.
2008 version 0-60mph time faster than the base model Range Rover sport - FL2 10.5, RRS 11.9
2010 version slightly slower at 10.9 sconds, (RRS 8.6 seconds).
Take it past 70mph and the fuel consumption takes a dive, at 90 mph expect 26mpg (or less) from the diesel.
Times taken from LRO Price guide.

Reasonable 70 -90mph, more sedate 90 - top speed. Compared to Bora 110 bhp diesel.

Makes a good motorway cruiser, never going to be a sports car, but you can travel 250 miles and get out ready for a days work, and travel the 250 miles back again in relative comfort.

A recent trip of mine was 320 miles, average speed: 58MPH, average consumption: 39.4 MPG Motorway almost all the way (well, A1, M1, M40). Okay, I wasn't going hell for leather but drop it down to 5th and I could pick up to lane 3 speeds as and when I needed to. Sure, it'll never be like the 3l gas-guzzling straight 6 it replaces (boy, I'll miss the instant pick-up from...ahem...69 to 70) - but it's not designed for instant acceleration.
Plan further ahead (easy to do given the better visibility) and, with roads getting more congested and cameras getting smarter, your license will love you for longer! SE on an 07 plate

Mine seems very comfortable at 90-100, which I have never tried of course. The only uncomfortable thing is that the economy drops substantially. This is because aerodynamic drag is an approximate square function of velocity (for you physicists) and FL2s are not very aerodynamic.
Try a test by resetting the MPG display. At a steady 60 on the flat you'll get around high 30s, at 90 it'll drop to high 20s.

I agree with AndyT on the basis of Npinks comment. I can also say on the basis of Npinks comment that I've topped out at about 122 and it still felt stable. Freelander 2 XS 2.2 TD4 Met Black, with Winter pack, 18" alloys with General Grabber AT2 wellies, MANTEC Sump and Tank Guards

recently done a up and down to Denmark via Germany and my diesel had no problems with Autobahn speeds (in fact most of the time (=three quarter of the time) I was glad I could do more than 40 km/hour (= due to major roadworks over there) On the other quarter where I could get the pedal down I was surprised of the ease of which the FL2 got around. And at 182 km/hour (on the GPS, on the dashboard 190) its finished... I suspect there is a limiter at that speed... And my avg consumption was 8,4 l/100km.

I leave it all in kph and l/100km so someone else can do the conversion Laughing Fl2 zermattsilver TD4 S man
