Of course, most of the snow in Norway is dry snow (colder or powdery snow if you like), but also wet snow during early and late winter when the air temperatures can be higher. I cant say I can recall any of the problem breaking conditions being mentioned here i.e. longer ABS breaking distances. snow wedging etc. ABS breaking always works efficiently as I would imagine it should, with no suggestion of longer breaking distances than without ABS. The reason for this maybe that our vehicles are fitted with tyres to cope with the conditions and as earlier mentioned it is illegal to use normal tyres in winter.

If the ABS is cutting in ! your braking to hard or or traveling too fast for the tires to grip the road/snow.

Mmmm like I am not actually aware of this already I would just like the option to be able to turn it off temporarily, hence this thread. The default setting should be that it is on.. no argument there. |

This may be true with summer tyres in snow conditions - Fit WINTER tyres and the stopping distance will be SHORTER than without ABS If you compare breaking hard on a water logged asphalt road with and without ABS - which system would give you the shortest breaking distance If you don't believe me try it for yourself 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof. Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc. |
