In my previous house we did just this.

The winch was from a disabled persons stair lift mounted on angle iron bolted to the car port floor although we had to build up the cheeks of the winch drum to take the extra length of wire rope
We pulled the van up the drive "in reverse".

The wire rope was attached to to a poly rope strop which was attached to the van by means of 2 shackles which were substituted for one bolt on each of the rear steady's.
This was refined so the shackles remained in place, eyes spliced on to each end of the strop and carabineers looped through the eye and shackle.

This worked for over 2 years with a Swift Europa 490 until we moved house.

Have to say it was very slow but steady and if I had to do it again I would be looking on E Bay for a move powerful winch.
