Yes. Sounds the same as mine. She's going in on Monday to be sorted (I hope!) Indus Silver

Hey! I'm new on the site, but after having such an awful experience with the steering on our car I thought I would start here! Bought the car new on the 2nd March this year, and guess what...in the dealers that afternoon topping the fluid up. The next day the steering seized, LR Assist came and filled again. Day after that, same happened again. Got it back to the dealers and they told us that there was a leak, but the fluid wasn't visible (It was hugely obvious because the fluid kept disappearing but there was never any on the floor.) Eventually they worked out it was all gathering in the steering gaitors on the steering rack. A week later they eventually got a new steering rack in and we could get our car back! So for the first week of ownership it was at the dealers in pieces!!! In fairness Guy Salmon were excellent, but it did tarnish the Freelander experience slightly! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

That's how mine sounded at first. It's the pump doing OT to turn the wheels. Can't indicate whether it's normal however, as mine is as we speak having her steering sorted! Indus Silver

Yes it's normal to hear a noise at full lock, most power steering cars do it |

That is my understanding too, so I didn't worry untill it started making a bubbling noise and getting heavy!

I've had 2 instances of low assitance from the steering, one quite worryingly on a B road. reported at 30k service under warranty, checked but no fault found. Fluid level hasn't moved since new (June 0.

Steering on mine got progressively heavier. Took it into the dealers yesterday where they tried a 'few modifications' recommended by LandRover. This still didn't work so have now agreed to replace the steering rack. Only problem is LR haven't any in stock and they don't know when they are going to get any. Last time this happened to me (gearbox failure) it was a month before the parts turned up. I was also told that LR assist have changed there policy on replacement hire cars. Rather than LR paying direct they now expect the dealer to hire the car and then claim it back from LR. Without telling me - the dealer only authorised a small saloon (this is now 5:45pm on Friday). When I phone the dealer from the hire car company to say thats no good to me, I am told the only person who can authorise a larger car won't be available now until Monday. My car is 3 years old in April and a new FL2 was definitely on the list of possible replacements, with this track record, I am not so sure anymore. |

Your mention of replacement car was quicker than mine, it took six days before mine came, off the road on the wednesday, Friday before they agreed I could have a car which was promised for Monday as it seems you cannot get cars over the weekend? Car arrived 8pm ot the Tuesday. Parts still not in but nothing to do with the steering issues. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |
