FACTORY FIT SAT NAV MODS

Hi,

I am new to the forum and would appreciate some help.
I have the factory fit sat nav which is fine. I also tow a small trailer, which when fitted is invisible as the
back end of the car is so high !!!

I intend to fit a reversing camera so I can see what is going on. Sourced the camera but I am not keen on
having a screen sat on my dashboard or having the clip on screen which goes over the rear view mirror.

I have enquired at a local ICE specialist about plugging the camera into the sat nav screen and its no problem. Apart from the price. He wants £450 !!!!!!! I can do the camera mounting and cable routing myself. No problem. Also I have no issues in taking apart the dashboard to connect up.

My question is, what do I need, to connect the camera to the back of the factory fit sat nav? Is it a straight plug into an AV input? Or do I need some sort of box of tricks to tell it to stop looking like a satnav and to put up the camera picture when reverse is initiated?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Thumbs Up

bjartin used a separate screen for his reverse camera, not as neat but much cheaper

this thread also contains link refering to using the oem screen

could you not ask him what the product is that he is going to use as you wish to search on its reliability etc

Then buy it yourself, and fit it

I would also be carefull "his way" does include cutting and splicing the cables as i think this would ruin your remaining warranty if it went wrong Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thanks for the prompt replies.

I must be out of touch cos' my trolley is orange !!!

The installation is neat enough for the screen but I am totally OCD with wires and not having them showing.!!

I think I will talk to the installer and do as you recommend, ie ask him what product he is using and see if I can source the item my self. Also good point ref the warranty, but I suppose any aftermarket kit splicing into the loom either by me or an ICE specialist could invalidate it, its just that my way its cheaper.

I will keep searching and post any successes (Or failures !) on here.

After much searching (Mostly in my bank account for funds) I have decided to go with an after market monitor, probably sunk into the sun visor. This brings the cost down to around £100. Much more palitable

One further question, and sorry to be a pain, is there anything unusual about the FL2's wiring that I need to be aware of? Can I just tap straight into the reversing light 12v feed or will this cause any problems? I have heard stories about duplex or databus wiring (Like on high end BMW's) and tapping into them can cause the car to think there is a fault.

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

No need to worry. Just tap into the reverse lights directly.
That's because the reverse lamps are driven through a relay and not through a FET transistor like other light bulbs.

I dont think my trolley is in the same league as you guys !!!

It has a wonky wheel and is old black and decker orange.

We have some good ones at work though which we use for moving aircraft about and putting wings on.

Does anyone know of any good independents in the Hull or East Riding area?
I am losing faith in the dealer. When I picked the car up there was a massive dent Crying or Very sad in the door which the dealer tried to hide. It was spotted and repaired but the car came back in a right old state. Filthy from the paint work and rubbing down etc. They now keep contacting me and asking if I want to buy a newer one !!!

No thanks

Old, Old thread but, Could i just tap into the fuse box under the glovebox for the reverse lights? It seems to be a fuse there.

Thank you. Cuatro Por Cuatro
