I've had the car for exactly 2 weeks today (Nov. 12th) and I got in it today and it said "Low Coolant Level". Now it's freezing here in VA and has been raining for 2 days nonstop, but I'm pretty sure after 2 weeks, the coolant level shouldn't be low. Any suggestions before I call the dealership and ask them what is up.

Is it low or just telling you it's low

I dunno if it's low or not, I haven't looked yet. When the message came on it was dark out and it has been raining all day/night, so I didn't want to pop the hood and start messing around with all that stuff in the rain. I'm assuming it is the sensor, and not low coolant. I've only had the darn thing for 2 weeks !!

I would take a brolly and have a look.

Had that message on the wife's FL2 last weekend after we drove down to Lake of Menteith, checked it and the coolant was on the minimum line, topped it up and appears to be fine since. ______________________

Dont you have covered filling stations in Virginia - I suggest you fill up at the local gas station and have a look under the bonnet (hood) at the same time In fact that should be done as the normal weekly check according to the FL2 owners handbook page 158 - Don't just rely on the dashboard telling you everything you need to check  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

As an afterthought.. am I ok putting water in?!!!! It's what I used to do in't old days (1980's) when I fixed/destroyed my own cars.

Unfortunately if you keep putting water in and not coolant it eventually freezes in cold weather and the engine stops working and makes lots of grinding noises......well it did in a 1984 Renault Fuego!!! Baltic blue XS - Alpaca Leather - 18" HSE wheels.

My Audi very slowly used coolant , it eventually got a new cylinder head 1 week before the warranty ran out, after a few cross words with the dealerships service manager.

The old head was porous , it needed about 1/2 pint of water every 2000 miles of so. So do not ignore this water loss, get a pressure test done while you still have a warranty. At work

FL2's, D3's & RRS's appear to 'use' coolant, never found any leaks though and not had any issues even on high mileage vehicles - possibly the OAT coolant 'gasses' more than the traditional ethelyne glycol?
It's true that fluid level checks should be part of a weekly check - not just for LR's but for all vehicles

The message comes up if descend hills often, the difference between high and low coolant on the bottle is not very much, i top it up till above max. Happened 2 me 4 times now and i've got 92000km on.

Noticed this issue myself when I first bought the car in 2007. Seems to have resolved itself thankfully within a month or so. Earlier last month, I received a letter about a voluntary recall to check for a known problem with coolant leaks.

Happened to me also, especially when I parked the car on slight hills. I checked the coolant level and it was about 1/4 between the MIN and MAX marks. Then I went to the dealer and they told me that if I park on hills and the coolant was low, I was going to have the Low Coolant Warning.
