Just looked on K&N site and they don't even list a LR2 with a TD4 engine as they are an American site, they also have no filter for the 3.2 petrol |

[quote="npinks"]Would adding a K&N filter to a normal unchipped 2.2 TD4 make any difference to MPG

the difference is my tractor is serving the country by providing food, where as your van is costing the govt money by slowing traffic reducing safety camera revenues and making people late for meetings. According to my calculations (450/460 divided by 14.298), I'm averaging between 31.4 & 32.1 mpg. Strange, as the onboard computer says I'm averaging 29.8. This is a mixture of town & fast dual carriageway driving. |

Average over the first 1500 miles is 36.8, wouldn't bother with K&N etc. filters, initial 'improvement' is great, soon degrades after that but gradually so not noticable, paper filters provide better filtration (therefore less engine contamination & wear), top tip to extend their life is to rotate 180 degrees |

A K&N Filter on it's own won't make the blindest bit of difference. (They should not effect your warranty either). they are worth while if the car is re-mapped, but I have not bothered to be honest. Your best bet is to replace the original air filter every six months or so to keep everything clean. Regarding the Shell V-Power, you won't see an improvement until you have used it for about 4-5 tanks constantly, the ECU map can learn by the fuel used and takes time to adjust. We bought our car at 9 months old and 10400 miles, since then it has been used 100% on Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate fuiel. MPG is slightly better but the engine is so much quieter and mid range pull is good. We think it is worth the extra few pence for it. We only fill up about once a month so the extra cost is not worth worrying about. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather.
