When should I first get the car checked over /serviced?

I got the new car in April. Its done about 8000 km.

It seems the first service is due at 24,000 km (or presumably 1 year if thats sooner, which its likely will be).

However, i feel uncomfortable waiting a full year before I get any kind of check up on a new car.

Does anyone advise something sooner, or can I just relax?

your dealer might offer a free winter health check, i know some do over here
