Hi, Picked up a new FL2 yesterday and really pleased with the purchase. Tried most of the features out but just want to check on two small things:

1. Should the wing mirrors dip automatically when reverse is selected. Mine doesn't but flicking through the manual it seems to suggest they should - maybe only on high spec models? we have a TD4 XS

2. should the rear window deactivation switch (on the drivers side window control panel) light up when pressed? it appears to have a LED on the switch but when I press it - it works (disables the rear window switches) but doesn't illuminate....

.... only done 100 miles or so but what a great car in all respects

1. I think mirrors only dip when you have leather seats with memory function

2. not sure about that, I will take a look at the switch in the dark

believe me, the miles will keep on passing by very quickly since it's such a great car to drive

Mirrors only dip on reverse on HSE models. I've got an XS model which I park kerbside every night. What I've done is set passenger side mirror looking downwards more than the drivers side mirror so that I have half a chance of seeing kerb when reversing into a parking space.

Thanks for the responses - good tip re partially dipping the nearside wing mirror.

Will check when dark if the LED on the window switch illuminates - as mentioned not very easy to see in the daylight - not ideal as the LED is the only way to know what position the switch is in other than trying the passenger window switches...

Great car though - driven a few 4x4s before but never owned one, even after such a short time behind the wheel I can't see it being easy going back to a 'ground level' car again..... had a VX220 Turbo which I sold last year - would have been fun having it now and jumping out of the FL2 and into the VX to get a feel for real height difference

Not that the FL2 is slow but I'm sure you'll notice you get a tremendous amount of driving satisfaction with the FL2 at lower speeds than the VX220- that's very good news for your driving licence ....

I'm actually noticing a few similarities betwwen the drive of the VXT and the Freelander - namely the torque availble ... the reason i got the VXT over the Elise was because i wanted an engine that was effortless rather than one that was revy and all top end. I got a Stage II tune on the VXT so had 250bhp and 260lbs of torque ...obviously it is much different to the Freelander but this is also my first modern diesel (had a cavalier TDi years ago as a company car) and I'm really impressed with the performance - esecially how (relitively) effortless it feels. Can't imagine ever going back to a regular petrol engine - unless it is a V8 or something, and would love to get a drive in the new TDV8
