Choose your dealer carefully!

I ordered an SE in stornaway with scuba interior in the first week in January for delivery last week in March from my local dealer in Nelson. No discounts were forthcoming at that time but I got about £1K worth of extras included so I was reasonably happy. I was transferring a personal plate onto it from another car of mine so at the beginning of March (nearly 4 weeks to deliver) I took all the documents in for the transfer and left them with the sales guy. Last weekend (2 weeks to due delivery) I called to check that the transfer had happened and was told "We haven`t been able to do it yet - we don`t have a chassis number because the car isn`t built!" ALARM BELLS!!!!!! It turned out, after a meeting with the dealer principle, that the car was never ordered from the factory - the dealer assumed they would pick up that spec of car up from another dealer on a transfer, and then they couldn`t find one. He never did answer my question "If I hadn`t chased you up, when would you have told me there wasn`t a car for me?" I cancelled!
But before the meeting with the dealer principle I had been to another dealer at Brock and checked out their stock, got over £1500 off the list price (admittedly on a different colour, but I had always been undecided when I ordered as to the colour) and some extras thrown in, AND a promise to do everything possible to get it registered and delivered in 7-10 days, fingers crossed that the DVLA do the transfer quickly. The car will be ready in a week, awaiting a transferred plate.
Moral - Choose your dealer carefully, and keep on top of them!

UPDATE: Due to a slight delay at DVLA - they wanted to inspect the car donating the personal registration number, so a meeting had to be arranged for me to take it into the local office - I am due to pick up FL2 on Friday 30th. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

That story seems just like my experience with Audi and a black TT I ordered, only they allowed me to post the private number retention certificate to them, and it took them a further two weeks to realise my car wasn't ordered. (6mth waiting list)
result - order cancelled and black FL2 purchased.... So if it wasn't for Audi I wouldn't be here gracing this forum ,entertaining the vaners Rolling Eyes At work

I really do belive that the dealers think that they are doing you a favour. In a way they are, how else are you going to buy a new car Evil or Very Mad .

I think the Car makers should open up five / ten supper show rooms where you can buy from them direct! Thumbs Up HSE, Auto, Colour - Yes
