Can't afford a Xenon upgrade !

Was looking at this and not only is it expensive but it seems the aftermarket kit is a bit of a nightmare to fit (beyond my skills anyway). So i've gone for changing the headlight bulbs to Philips Diamond Vision 5000K, £37 quid off the well known internet auction site. I've fitted them and not only do they look the dogs, they shine a crisp clear white light a lot further than the standard H7's. They do cheaper one's at about £20 but don't do it, get the 5000k type. Going to have to change the sidelights now as they look yellow and horrible.
I can really recommend them, thought this might be of interest.

let me know what side lights you get as mine look rather yellow against the xenons Thumbs Up

I did get, (and can still get Ring Blue Side lights for next to nothing) but they didn't give the ultra white look I wanted.

LEDs do but i think i read they need transistors and stuff adding which is a bit of a PIA Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I fixed leds but had to fix 220ohm 3W resistor to stop the flashing. Value I used is highest value (which translates to lowest heat dissapated from the resistor, only 0.6watts) so resistor is also inside the headlight unit. Final result is really nice, same colour as my xenons. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

if you after replacing the zenons then best look at how i did it, here http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic4194.html

If its the side lights then I just bough w5w led lights from ebay. When you connect them they will start blinking and to stop that you need to connect a resistor between the positive and negative wire of the side light, connect it closer to the side light holder inside the head light unit by removing bit of insulation from both wires and then soldering the ends of the resistor. I bought the resistors from Maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2173 (stock code W220R). Hope this helps. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

MacPherson - Could you get a pic posted of how they look with the lights on and off???? It's says about the blue reflection in the reflector even when the lights off, I'm not sure if I'd like that or not! But thinking about it my car is Blue so it might look ok!? Whistle

@d@m - There's a couple of pictures in my gallery of them on but they don't do it justice......it really is a crisp clear white slightly bluish, tinge (is that a word ?). When they are off you can from certain angles see a bit of blue in the reflector. I'll take some pictures of them when there off later today and put them on my gallery.
Apparently they are not for Europe, i.e. a bit naughty here in the UK, but when the police start stopping people with their foglights on during the day, then I'll think about changing my bulbs back (Actually no I won't Rolling with laughter !!)

They certainly look bright, and white!!! Would there be any issues with having them in for MOT is the beam pattern going to be affected by the power of the bulbs?

I'm not clever enough to answer that one but in theory, surely all a more powerfull bulb is going to do is project more light into the same area as a normal bulb, and shouldn't affect the MOT - I'll let you know in March 2011 when it's passed/failed Laughing
