Towing hooks

Hello,

Does anyone know if the tow points front and back are suitable as any type of recovery point? Are you familiar with the term 'snatching' in the UK or is it called something else? I would like to know if its actually safe to attach a snatch strap with D shackles to those points for recovery purposes. My Landy dealer wasn't sure and never got back to me.

I have used them as such a couple of times but only quite gently.

Thanks,
Mike

According to the manual these are not offroad recovery points.

But... I was told by LRE that these would be fine for this.

If you look at them, they are a lot bigger than most cars.

However, snatch recovery carries a risk on any recovery points, even specially designed ones.

Depends why you need snatch, and if standard towing strop would be suitable.

My personal choice would be standard recovery point front, using a pin style towbar on rear, fixed towbar bracket.

Using standard towing strops.

Rich

Thanks.

Down Under we mostly seem to get stuck in sand because we have a shortage of water. Most of the other cars in the area all carry snatch straps for jerking us off....I mean out. Some guys who don't know what they are doing, are really rough about it, putting a lot strain on the point. (One guy nearly gave me whiplash, luckily I had the strap attached through tow bar pin). It would be really dangerous if the point failed, someone could get killed

Most worrying was when my local LR dealer told me not to use the standard points for offroad recovery.

When I asked him what I should do if I ever got stuck, he said to tie the rope round the suspension, as this would be a strong point Shocked

Wonder if they'd cover it under warranty when the front wheel is ripped from the car Question
