Audio input socket wiring ?

I am currently installing a Harmon Kardon ipod controller and need a bit of information about the wiring that goes to the auxillary audio input socket between the front two seats in the console (the socket that you would plug a 3.5mm jack from an ipod etc).

The question is there are four wires that are going to the socket and i want to put a remote 3.5mm audio jack so i need to know which two wires do i need for the audio signal ?

What are the other two wires for anyway ?

Cheers Bob

I don't know your answer,

but my new car has a Kensington iPod connector/charger in the glove box for the Iphone, to do this they had to remove the aux In socket to wire it up

I have questioned this with them and they said it was one or the other, due to interference

When i have time i might have a look and see how they have wired it in, maybe a 3.5mm plug into the socket they removed Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I wonder then how it works with the Audio Connectivity Module. Does the aux in still work as the ACM has an aux in itself? Furthermore I wonder if you can use the ACM in conjustion with the external CD changer, thus giving you IPOD/CD/CD Changer/ACM Aux in/Normal Aux in/Radio. Thats a lot of sources! 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

I am not going to that extent.

I am just looking to piggy back from the four wire connector and take off the two wires required for the 3.5mm female jack plug to a more hidden place under the drivers seat.

Hope someone can help.

I would think you need 3 wires for the 3.5mm aux socket, one left one right and one common? Maybe the forth is shielding?

Yes you are right !! doh i do not want to convert back to mono.

now just need to know which of the four wires do what (gnd, left, right and centre).

The rest of the install has gone well and very happy with the operation and design of the controller, it just that i do not like the look of jack plug sticking out of the centre console.

Wiring Diagram has been uploaded to my gallery. You will see the wiring for the Aux Socket on the third page identified as 'socket-auxillary V105'
