2007 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Stornoway Grey
Goodrich AT tyres on GS 17" rims

Hi all, I have stock GS 17" rims and need to get some decent tyres on them. I've used Goodrich ATs on my Defenders, FL1 in the past and want to do the same. Which size do we know fit and work best on the FL2 without any modification?

Sure someone on here has fitted AT tyres, although they may have been General Grabber AT2s. Sure if you search you'll find it.

They were definitely bigger than standard tyres though, but didn't need any mods.

Think BFGs are way too big, but could be wrong.

I've gone with Cooper Discovery ATRs Not as aggressive, but work really well on road, haven't trued them in anger offroad yet, but others have, and highly rate them.

Rich

I highly recommend the Bridgestone D694 http://www.bridgestone.eu/bfe/v/index.jsp?...01a10aRCRD

I have punished mine and not a hint of damage. Bag out well, excellent grip on rock, great in mud and loads of fun along the beach. Mine have a load rating well above what is required and I think this adds greatly to the strength. The downside would be road noise but on wet tarmac they grip really well. Here in Australia they are used a lot in outback areas, some of the toughest conditions you'll see anywhere.

Just ordered some Toyo Open Country AT's for mine. Should have them in a few days. I'll report back.

Pretty sure there was a posting on here a while back on the Goodrich AT's, differant size than the original tyres though which might effect your insurance.
I'm thinking about putting a set of Cooper discovery M&S on a second set of 17's (same size as original) for the winter, they look a good open tread, anyone else tried them ?

I have the General Grabber ATs fitted (255 65 17). Like you I used to run BFG's on FL1 and highly rate them for grip and ware. Unfortunately they don't do tyres in a 65 profile yet. The only option for a BFG tyre would be to fit rims from the basic model with 215 70 16 tyres.

I had Toyo Open Country AT fitted originally, they are good on ware and noise but not much good in mud.

The General Grabber AT is a similar pattern to BFG AT, slightly less agressive on the shoulder, which makes them a little quieter on the road. Off road grip is good, road manners good, probably won't ware as well as BFG's.

Size wise, this was the nearest I could get on a 17 inch wheel. They are a slightly larger rolling diameter. Which will make you speedo under read by about 2mph at 60. Also it will cock-up your fuel computer readings / odometer similarly. Previously my mph would read 32-33mph, now reads 27-28mph. Width wise they 255's fit ok, with clearance against struts (just). No fouling problems from fronts on full lock / articulation that I have noticed yet. Obviously you should inform your insurance company of any non original spec item on your car.

Would like to try the Goodyear MTR's on a FL2, tread looks good for mud use. However think they might not be up to everyday driving with regards to handling, noise and ware, any one any experience of these? 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone
