Cyprus 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey
motor oil, noise from front wheels, smoke at the back

Hi Guys,

I went to the local dealer in Cyprus yesterday for a 24000km engine oil change and also to have them check some minor problems i have.
The first thing i want to discuss here with you is regarding the engine oil the dealer uses here. They told me they use the 5W-40 Agip oil and i was wondering if this oil is good enough for our FL2. (Oil is changed every 8000KM).So please let me know your opinion about this motor oil.

Also lately, when turning left or right i could here a noice from the 2 front wheels something like a tik tik tik and when accelerating there is black smoke at the back. They had a test drive to see this 2 problems and arranged to take the car in for a check on Thursday. As soon as i have some feedback on this 2 i will let you know. Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

Hi guys,

I got the car back from the dealer last week and they said that the noise coming from the front wheels was because the brakes needed cleaning Confused I told them that thats not the reason but they said that when they cleaned the brakes the noise was gone so i agreed. I got the car and after 2 days the noise is back and is even worse...it sounds like there is something loose from the front wheels, especially the left one so i guess i need to take the car AGAIN back to the dealer hoping this time they find the reason! Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

i've got the same problem with you Hadjista. So far, both front suspension springs have been changed as well well as some other parts like bushes e.t.c. All this work work has been done free of charge by the dealer within warranty. However the problem persists. They told me that the steering column needs to be changed.
I will keep you informed.

I took the car back to the dealer yesterday regarding the noise that comes from the front left wheel. The technician confirmed that there was still a problem with it so they took the car in for inspection.
After talking with the engineer he said he things that there might be something to do with the brakes, anyway he will check the car and i will let you know of the findings in a couple of days Very Happy Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

I just called the dealer to ask the status of my car, they said that they are able to hear the weird noise coming from the left front wheel but they don't know exactly why this sound occurs so they conducted Landrover factory in England and they are waiting for a reply. I was told that they cleaned and greased again the brakes (temporary fix) and that I should go and pick up the car today as they will be closed for holiday the next 2 weeks and wait until they receive a reply from the factory and then take them the car back.
However I haven't understood why they need to conduct Landrover factory in England, I mean they have trained mechanics here that can check the car and identify the problem, anybody knows why the dealer needs to conduct the factory in England? Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

They will be contacting LR technical support, they are non customer facing office staff, and quite possibly that they was involved in the design and build of the FL2

My dealer contacts them quite often,...... Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

some additional feedback on this issue...i got the car back and for the last week i have been testing it regarding the weird noise coming from the left from wheel and it seems that it has stoped. Dealer told me that the only thing they did was to clean the brakes and grease them (same thing as last time) but it seems this time the noise has stoped. During weekend i will be offroading so i guess that would be the ultimate test for this. I will let you know about the results next week Wink Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

Other things could be seizing brake caliper (wheel hub will be very hot to touch after 20 miles or so) or (less likely nowadays) worn drive shaft CV joint (clicking on full lock - drive in circles round a car park to test) 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Thanks Captain Worm. I ve allready read all these. I was just wondering how the Cypriot LR dealer faced the problem I have, on other cars.
Thanks again.
