Ile de Re

Any been to Ile de Re ? Looks like a great place for next years summer holidays (May or June). I'm looking for a self catering villa on the island , so Mrs G and I can cycle around on the flat island towing the little lad in a bike trailer.

"And explore hidden treasures. And the bicycle is Ré’s favourite mode of transport… Over 100km of waymarked and signposted cycle paths, dirt tracks and adventure trails… And there are numerous bicycle rental outlets ideally located on the island. And some of them even provide a breakdown service on the cycle paths themselves!"

Getting there will be easy a cheap jet2 flight from Leeds to la Rochelle. Then a 20 mile taxi or hire car trip to the island. Better than a long car trip with two year old in the back seat Cool .

Also worth looking at are ille de noirmoutier and ille d'oleron, all three have excellent cycling etc, noirmoutier is the prettiest with the best beaches, Oleron is the largest with good beaches, a lighthouse and boat trips to fort Boyard
they are all very popular with the Parisans in August and very busy, but in June or September they are nice.
They all have the best seafood restaurants in France, in my opinion and are all ideally suited to a young family holiday
you can see more of them using the Webcam sites as they all have public webcams Thumbs Up

Went to la Rochelle a few years back, great weather, seafood, markets.

The landing at la Rochelle is a real laugh, the runway seems about 100yrds long, you touch down and find you've just head butted the fag stubber on the seat in front, good old Ryanair.

Was on the Ile de Re a couple of weeks ago - we love it and have been a number of times but have never actually stayed on the island.

Only drawback would be paying the bridge toll if you wanted days away from the island.

Personally I think it's one of the best pleces in France that I've been. Looking to book a couple of weeks there next year.
