Go straight to the DVLA site. A lot of the independants buy them from here and add their mark up. The prices here include VAT and the £80 transfer fee. The other sites prices don't usually include these.

I've been looking too, if you can find a plate that suites then the DVLA offers an all inclusive price which seems better than independents. The DVLA have a great plate for me, itis the model of my new car with my full initials, very personalised! Although it would rather tie me to staying with the same model in future to maintain the appearance, but following my first weeks experience that wouldn't be problem Thumbs Up Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

I'm the same I quite the F2 NJP (F2= Freelander2) or F12 NJP (F12= FL2)

But I have also seen FA57 FLZ (FAST FL2 with a little help) but its quite a bit of money and wouldn't be any good on any other car and obviously nobody wants it or it would have been bought already so selling on could be a problem when the time comes Confused

I saw a private JAG plate on a Merc, X5 plate on a RRS and they just look wrong Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

This depends on what type of plate you are looking for! If you just want something that looks like a private plate (and I admit that I previously had a "B" plate that I made look like an 8 then that's fine but...

if you want a plate that is just your initials then you have to go to places like Regtransfer etc.

I now have a TB + 4 digit plate and............. it wasn't cheap. It was originally issued in Lancashire in 1919 so.. a bit of history there!

It all depends on what you want.

If you just want to take the year off your car you will be able to buy a plate like EXU 897 for reasonable money - only £100's.

Does that help??

Believe me!!!!

If you spend money on a "cheap plate" that means only something to you - it's money badly spent

If you don't know what you want - buy a plate that has no meaning - eg EXU 978 and it will hold it's value until such time that you want to sell it and buy something you want!

Been there, done that.

If you buy a plate that has real value to you eg NP 4293 - it will be yours forever and... hold it's value.

Keep looking!

I see that 5 NJP is up for £5K + but...

S99 NJP is only £945 and if you bend the S it will look like 599 NJP and that's.................. pretty cool!

Don't understand why people get car specific plates, most people know what the car is, it even has a badge on the back. And it will look silly if you buy another car eg. M3 whatever on a 6 series.
Best thing is to get something related to you, then you can keep and transfer to next car. Only 'geeks' know what FL2 means... Wink Phil

My initials are SPC, I've seen the plate 5 PC for sale, problem was it was mega bucks so that wont happen.

could kick myself because I owned an Austin A35 with the plate '9045 E' some years ago, I had the opportunity to put it on retention but didn't .... boy, that was a mistake ....

A relative of mine has 1 ABC and ABC 1 ... (well not abc but his initials ... now that is cool!) Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

NP I have P13 MUD on retention.................................. was part of a pair that I bought at the same time for £300 each, P12 MUD is on my 90. Any offer over £300 will secure! Going for any plate that includes a model or brand name will cost you lots, FA57 RRS cost me £900......................... but then I was offered £10k for it a month ago by a guy driving an RS Focus, took me a minute or 2 to work out the relevance to him and then he told me that his Focus is chipped so it would be a FASTR RS! It isn't for sale but it's nice to know there are still folks out there with more money than sense and prepared to offer £10k for a plate! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
