Two questions

The important one.

Does anybody recall seeing the fuel tank size anywhere?

The out of interest one.

Does anybody know if the plastic front guards have been retained?

Plastic front guards... didn't see them at Gaydon and are not present in any of the press / magazine photos.

Petrol 70L
Diesel 68L

cheers

Thanks.

Shame about the gaurds they were kind of nice as a conversation piece but I guess they are a nightmare for body shops. You do realise that I was asking about the mud guards or fenders as the Yanks say I assume.

If the fuel consumption as similar to the current models that is going to put the round town diesel range up to about 800kms or at current Australian prices just on Aus$100 for a tank full. Very Happy

OK ya lost me... I thought you mean the front flaps before the front wheels on the prototypes... mud flaps (behind each wheel) not seen in any pics but I'm sure they will be an option.

Is this what you meant ?

No what I mean is the actual mudguards (or fenders as the Yanks say) themselves.
The body coloured items that sit on the side of the vehicle behind the headlights, over the front wheels and stop in front of the front doors. At the top edge there is a gap between them and the bonnet (or hood in Yank terms).
I have attached a picture of what I mean (not my car, just taken from Google).

I thought fenders were the bumpers in the US. Mud guards or flaps sit behinh the wheel and what yu seem to be talking about is the front wing if on the outside or the wheelarch liner inside which I would certainly say yes it will have.

In Australia that area is called the mud guard. In the US it was certainly called the fender when I sold motor vehicles there. I forgot that in the Uk they are called wings.

The bumper in the US is the thing that sticks out across the front and back of the vehicle (the one that you use to touch park with Very Happy ).

The little plastic or rubber things that hang down behind the wheels are called mud flaps in Australia.

So we go back to the original question now that we are all talking about the same thing. Are they plastic (or should I say "advanced composite material") or metal on the new Freelander?

mmm funny this.

Was at the services on the M42 (nr Bromsgrove) yesterday eve and there sat in the car park were two Freelander 2's and a TDV8 RR.

Drove up to have a chat with the three drivers and got out for closer look.

Tapping the front wing with my knuckles... and they sounded metal not plastic. BUT they could well be plastic and more substantial than the wings on Freelander 1

Not reassuring I know but I did try and impressed myself for actually remembering Smile

Above and beyond the call of duty I would say. Smile

(Just remember to carry a magnet in your pocket at all times in case you come across another Freelander 2. You can then run the definitive test. Very Happy )

I did the same at Gaydon and would say it was metal - but I might be wrong. Very impressed with it, nice insde, very good boot and seeing it go round the track it really shifted!

Yup -- according to this month's LROI FL2's front wings are zinc coated steel.

Generally quite an interesting four-page article BTW -- lots of detailed info on the engine, transmission etc. Bill
