FL2 alternatives?

The Freelander is my 1st choice car in mind to replace the BMW but in looking at viable options i've been looking at the, cough.....Peugeot 4007 Shocked . The main aim is to get a car with more space mainly for the mutts, the car will be used for 25,000 miles anually and it will be chucked down a few muddy/rutted lanes too in persuit of my shooting hobby. Obviously the FL2 fits the bill but has anybody tried the 4007/Outlander or C Crosser before deciding on the FL2? I realise the FL is much better equipped for off road use but my offroading will be limited to muddy tracks and the odd field so nothing serious and I imagine the Pug would cope with my req's quite well. They seem to of recieved good press reviews but then so did the BMW and that's sadly very over-rated in my book

Would be interested to know peoples thoughts...........or, (no doubt), jokes/jibes too Laughing

My mate has a c-crosser courtesy car while his fl2 get repaired, he say its ok , quieter than an fl2 about same mpg ...same engine. I imagine the resale wont hold up well at all though , plus I think it looks terrible Confused At work

And I thought the FL2 was quiet cg, and the crosser is even quieter? Isn't the Crosser a rebadged Mitsi Outlander? p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I have had my FL2 for about 4 months and it meets all my needs, I use it for going up and down farm tracks, round country lanes, motorway driving and the odd grass field. I usually have Sprocket in the back (Springer Spaniel). This is my second 4x4 and first Land Rover and unless my circumstances change I think I will replace it with another when the time comes. Looked at all the other manufactures 4x4’s and did quiet a bit of homework on the web. After reading Razz the threads on this forum my decision to go for the FL2 was made a lot easier Razz

The only thing I would recommend and this applies to any car, is to get a proper Dog Cage / Create. The back of my last 4x4 was ruined with the dog, scratches on the plastic, mud and dust all over the place and dog hair migrating to the front. I got mine from Trans K9 Kennel System’s in Scotland

If the budget could stretch what about the Audi Q5 but in my search I found it lacking in spec and headroom for a high valued car

the 4007, c-crosser outlander are all the same car but I believe it was said on 5th Gear the citreon was the better buy.... Obviously wasn't put against the FL2 Whistle

Which spec fl2 are you putting them against? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

fl2 alternatives

i do the same,shoot/hunt/fish and looked for the alternative, mainly because of the cost,of the fl2 and only 1 came close was a nissan x trail, better mpg and a fl2 and 2nd hand cost a lot less an a fl2,buy looks, off road ability the fl2 has no real competors i think for the 3 years its been about. Bow down Bow down even the misses loved the fl2 and hated the x trail, and said if i bought the fl2 i could start the garage conversion next year,as this ment spending more ££££ ! so i went for a 3 month old demo fl2,2k on the clock and saved £3900 off new price.it is a pleasure to drive on mud tarmac and snow, its big but not to big,we just started camping,2 kids and the misses, and it just right for all our gear, Thumbs Up and will buy another tommorow if i won the lottery Razz :thumbsup:top spec with all the trimmings.,eccept the body kit,as i do go off road.

Budget wise I buy a car and claim mileage from the company I work for so i'm not looking to put anything towards another car if possible, (maybe £1000 perhaps as wifey has suffered a job loss and is earning peanuts) Rolling Eyes . I've been offered between 15and 16k for my BMW in px so budget is between 15 and 17k if you get what I mean Confused Most of what i've seen in a GS/XS/SE spec FL2 is either high mileage or over budget. Was talking to a Land Rover agent in Wootton Bassett a few weeks back and he stated that Freelanders were very hard to come by as their value is holding, whereas last year he was picking up 7 or 8 cars at auction at a good price he recently only managed to get his mitts on one due to costs! Last year in December I could of bought more or less any Freelander, dealers seemed desperate to get rid of them but times have changed it seems. There was a local car dealer who had a low mileage GS recently in grey/one owner and was spotless but it went straight away for 15k. He's taken my number as he's bid on an '06 SE but i'm not holding my breath. I'm sort of grabbing at straws really as I want shot of the BMW before it's got too many miles under it, I drive about 2000 miles a month so they're ticking away at a rate! Looking at the 4007 it seems you can pick up an 07/08 high spec' model as a straight swap more or less but the resale value is the obvious downside Sad
The Freelander is a fine car, I did enjoy my test drive in it last year and I still have the bruises for not following through with the deal, what with all the kicking i've given myself since Big Cry
I might try a 4007 but hopefully a Freelander will turn up soon?!

If you are that desperate would you be prepared to travel to buy one?

You can do a used search from the LR site using a postcode I think........

Peter, Appreciate your input, I missed that one and might give them a ring......not utterly convinced about colour though, shame Neutral I'm having a test drive in a 4007 during the next week as the deal seems to good not to at least consider, ie: year old car with 7000 miles is virtually new in my book and with a lot of warranty to run too it's has to be worth a test drive to see if they drive as well as everyone seems to think? Still favour the FL2 on looks and capability alone but to make the car viable i'll have to keep for a while and in two years a 4007/C crosser would still have relatively few miles on it in comparison.

Out of interest is there any owners on here that have run a FL to high mileages...say 90,000 miles Question

I recently purchased my Freelander2 with the help of drive the deal, an internet brokerage. They put me in touch with a major LR dealership and I now possess a brand new GS in Lago grey with full size spare for well under £20k.
