Flat Battery

When our car was just less than a year old we experienced a flat battery (I see why LRA drive Discovery's the guy had a boot load of batteries) Anyway the LRA guy got out the jump pack and started it, said everything was OK bla bla. As soon as he finnished I asked him to turn of the enging and put the volt meter on the battery - 11.7 volts (I then informed him I am employed by the largest supplier of OEM batteries and that the battery was shot) No further bull - changed immediately with one from his vast supply in the boot of the Disco.
He then lightened up and informed me to always lock the car when sitting on the drive (not to prevent theft) but the systems draw more current with the alarm off and the car unlocked than when locked Shocked

Mackayzer.

I can confirm the comment in your last sentence.

When I called out LRA for a flat battery I was informed by them that if the alarm is NOT set, (either one or two pushes on the button), then the battery is being used at the rate of one and half amps per hour.

I had not been setting my alarm at night, as the car was in a locked garage, and this high rate of discharged would seem to be correct.

PS- If you set the alarm, and then open the rear tailgate with the 'tailgate release' button, then the car still stays asleep. I find this useful when I am camping and want the car open for most of the day.

1.5A just sitting there unlocked? That's frankly f Censored ing barking! LR need to do a software update if that's the case. What the hell could be powered up that's drawing that kind of current? I could understand if the ignition was on or something but jeez..

Come on LR.. get your fingers out. 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

I have had flat battery problems 7 times in just 16 months. The last one occurred whilst on holiday in France, the key fob did nothing and I was stuck trying to remember how to use the key. Eventually I entered the passenger door lifted the bonnet and the battery measured 4.5Volts. After leaving the charger on for half a day I reconnected the battery and all the indicator lights flashed at a slow rate but pressing the key fob did nothing.
Put the key fob into the car and all the panel flashed with a buzzing noise, low and behold the car then started.

The maximum mpg was around 29mpg (even after many resets) but after what appears to have been a major reboot this has gone to 41 mpg.

The Fl2 battery only goes flat after leaving the car locked for over a week.

On camping trips starting after loading and unloading the car is touch and go, even with no lights on, bluetooth or anything in the 12V sockets.

As a retired person I find this car unfit for my use and sadly up to now LR don't have an answer. Big Cry

Not sure of the electronic logistics within the F2, but my wifes Merc A class had a similar problem. The outcome was to make sure that car was fully locked and alarmed. If not the electronics keep "waking up" to check various aspects of the car expecting the driver to reuse/restart within a short period of time. Deadlocking/alarming fully apparently puts the car into a very low current drain quiescent state

hi to all,
I see the flat battery problems are still on going,

Lets get to basics, what is a battery and what's is job ???

First a battery is a power pack (a reservoir) the bigger the battery the bigger the reservoir the more power it can give over a longer time. A fully charged battery for example

80 amp hour battery will give 8amps (96watts) for 10 hours or 10amp (120 watts) for 8 hours
120 amp hour battery will give 8amp (96watts) for 15 hours or 10amps(120watts) for 12 hours etc.

whats the job of the battery??
TO START THE CAR IN THE MORNING TO GO TO WORK ??plus run all the electrical things on the car radio, lights heater etc, (the modern car has a massive demand on the battery and modern cars have modern battery's to cope with this)

They also have modern very powerful Alternators to keep the battery charged ,

ie, start the car on a very cold frosty morning 600 to 800 amps to turn the cold engine over to start approx 10 seconds, approx 12 amp for the lights, heated seats 20 amps heated screen, mirros and heater approx 20amps TOTAL 52 amps ( A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY WILL BE FLAT IN UNDER 1.5 HOURS ) a drive to work under 10 miles 15 minutes and the battery may not be fully recharged

In the summer 400 to 600 amp to start (no lights, heater ) only the radio and ignition the battery will last a good 5 to 8 hour with no problems. battery fully recharged after about 5 miles or 10 minutes.

BUT ALL OF THE ABOVE WORKS WHEN EVERYTHING IS WORKING OK. AND THERE IS NOT SOME THINK PLUGGED IN OR A DISCHARGE. if there's a problem with the Alternator, the drive belts loose or the power cables from the alternator to the battery and the earth cable from the engine to chassis and chassis to battery are loose, dirty you will not get the full power from the Alternator to fully recharge the battery.
AND YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH FLAT BATTERY'S AND NONE STARTERS IN THE MORNING

I would get the full charging system checked out, because replacing the battery every 2 week is no the problem
Have fun regards jp Thumbs Up

Thanks JP, I think the problem is that LR seem unable (unwilling) to get to grips with the problem, the likes of myself and many others have provided them with a great deal of information and feedback only to be ignored .... Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

My battery was flat on Saturday morning. LR Assist came out, charged the battery but could find no fault on the car. The battery was in good condition, no leakage current detected and charging OK.

Flat Batteries

To all of you still complaining of flat batteries, listen carfully to your fuel pumps. I got a flat battery after 6 months of ownership. Turned out it was a dodgy fuel pump relay not switching off. But it did switch off after a while, so when the LRA guy came it was only drawing low current, just in the same way as you all describe. It might not be the answer for you guys, but it was for me.
