Hi I`am about to purchase a xs diesel auto s/h (1st reg 03/09) from a main LandRover dealer. It has the xs style pack fitted including the 19inch wheels. The problem i got it comes with a normal 17inch steel spare wheel,is this right?

It may be just the steel "get-you-home" type in which case it does not matter what spare wheel it has. Unfortunatly this type can only be driven at low speed (info is on the wheel).

However you may be well advised to get the dealer to swap it for a matching 19" alloy, although in reality it will probably never be used.

I have a get-you-home in the boot, 16" winter wheels and 18" summer wheels - no difference for normal driving, so if you get 17" spare and 19" on the car I guess it wont make a difference JUST AS A "GET-U-HOME" 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

This is correct. You can go to sleep now! Three possibilities are available: 1, an inflator; 2, temporary-use spare; and 3, full-size spare The wheel you have, whilst appearing normal sized, is classed as a temporary-use spare (do not confuse with space-saver pancake type).

All these wheel sizes have the same rolling circumference, bigger wheels have shorter tyres , so you can mix n match for 'get me home' reasons. 50 mph speed limit applies if using the temporary spare. At work

It would not be safe to drive on 3 x 19" wheels and 1 x 17"

When I had a car with 19" wheels the steel spare had a larger tyre to make up the difference, could
this be the same case

it also something I will need to check with James at CHPR on my new one Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

As cg said,plus as long as they are the correct sizes specified by LR then they are safe within the limitations imposed on their use - ie don't be a prat and go over 80 kmh. Start messing about with things and you've only got yourself to blame...

Thanks to you all, being old school i just could`nt get my head around a 19inch and 17inch on same axle but as you all said, one way or the other, the tyre is bigger on the 17inch to take up the slack and LR say`s its ok up to 50mph.Thank you all once again.I will hopefully collecting the Landy on Monday,watch this space.
