United States 2008 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Rimini Red
Sunroof Blind

How do I add tension to this? When I release it to open the sun roof it doesn't open all the way so I have to help it.

In the backseat it opens all the way the first time every time. I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.

Could just be in need of some grease in the tracks. They don't seem to be adjustable but you should get a new one under warranty.

It's not the sunroof, it's the blind that goes under it.

The mesh/fabric whatever it is thing. I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.

Yes, I understood your query, the clue was in your title.
As I mentioned, there are tracks/slots in which the ends of the front plastic moulded edge of the blind run. If they had no lubrication, they might conceivably cause a frictional force greater than the torque of the coil spring inside the blind assembly, causing the blind not to retract under its own force. Applying some silicon grease to these tracks, particularly to the rear, may assist normal operation. If it does not, then the fault is with the blind itself, which should be replaceable under warranty.

mine did exactly the same earlier in the year. I pulled it forward and back a load of times and it seemed to cure itself - like already stated probably something on the tracks (a shredded fly thats gone through the wind deflector perhaps??) Oh ok, I was under the assumption that you thought I meant the glass itself. My bad.

Ok I'll check that out, however, it seems like the coil spring just can't handle the load. I would try to investigate myself but I'm afraid I'll break something. lol

My nearest dealership is 300 miles from here in Fort Worth, Texas. So I try to fix stuff myself when I can.

Luckily there is a movement for a dealership to be built here in Midland. I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.

The blinds are a nightmare to get at since the roof lining needs to drop down, at least enough to get a screwdriver in at each end. I'd certainly try some lubrication first, perhaps after cleaning out the old stuff. I'm guessing you've got some pretty big flies in Texas - might be a few mashed in with the old grease!

Mine don't open all the way either. I have to open/close fast to get them to open all the way. I haven't messed with them that much though.

Has anyone done this? I started to do it the other day but when I looked at removing all the pillars with the airbags in them I decided I'd better just check on here first.

My sunblind came out and I need to put it back in (the front one). Whistle

What about the parts where they mention the plastic locking pin? Im not sure I have one of those... Rolling Eyes

I wouldn't want to take all the pillars out and remove the headliner only to find I need a small plastic pin as well Big Cry

Any guidance from our local experts on here would be much appreciated.

Mine shot back one morning when leaving work. It made such a loud bang, frightening me in the process that I thought I'd hit something. Anyway, on investigation found it was f**ked and it just came out on it's own minus 1 plastic slider at the n/s front. Now I have a gaping hole where the blind used to be. Cheapest replacement was on eBay at £200 !!!. At that price I can do without it.

Yeah, its a bit of a pain. I still have the blind and it looks intact. but those instructions and the airbags in the pillars have put me off doing anything with it yet...
