Hello, I purchased a 2007 Freel2 in Febr. A few weeks ago when pushing the Start/Stop button the Steering Column Lock error signal appeared in Italian (as it comes from the Italian market). After disconnecting the + pole-shoe the engine started perfectly. This failure occured repeatedly. Once I had to leave the car at the mechanic for the weekend, until the temporarily disconnected electronic control unit took a new lease of life. The incidence rate is too high not to ask you for a tip, if you have any. Thanks in advance for your advise.

A few choices, buy a new module and replace. Will require JLR SDD to marry the replacement module to the ecu.

Once unlocked, install a steering lock emulator, a cheaper fix. A search on the forum should bear some threads.

Use JLR SDD in engineering mode to remove the steering lock option completely from the CCF, car configuration file once unlocked.

Some on the forum have used lube as a temp solution to keep the lock functioning.

Hello, An emulator was installed last year by no.3 mechanic, functioned for 1 day, no.3 sent me to no.4, (no refund), who said he would never buy a Landy, which was called The English Patient by my friend, no.4. had no time, I did not use the car in winter, a week ago I restarted, every start had to be preceded by disconnecting the battery, no.4 told me to call him today, yesterday the Patient started perfectly at least 10 times, probably daunted by the doctor. When I take out the key and it gives a scratching sound, It is sure it will give the sound again when I insert the key, and the engine would start off the cuff. What should I recommend to no.4? Any proposal?

Hi, in all these years I have heard many people with your same problem... and I have come to a conclusion... that in all probability it is not the steering lock that has problems... but the BCM (Body computer) a relay inside it or some other component is not working, it could help to replace the BCM, but you need SDD and you have to know how to make it work...
Alex Pescaru unfortunately is no longer in touch, in my opinion he would have been able to give us confirmation and more details....
