Britannia Rescue

Has any one experience of Britannia Rescue? It is being pushed by my insurance comapny LV. I got a quote for fairly basic cover of £73 and the equvalent level of cover with the AA was £77.

I am currently with the RAC which I think is about £85 (last year's price for similar cover). I have been with them since 1966, when it was three guinees a year, but I have never had to call them out so I don't know if they are any good!

I shall be pleased to have your views.

I called the AA out once it was a nightmare.

RAC left me stranded in a dangerous position for 8 hours, by which time my battery was flat from hours of using my hazard lights. Being an auto, I couldn't get it out of park and in to neutral . When a "local" recoverer eventually turned up 6 hours after the initial call, he didn't have his jump pack and wanted to just winch (drag) the Freelander on to his low loader ! Took him another 2 hours to go back to base and get the jump pack (rush hour traffic, base was 20 miles away).
Worst service I ever had.

RAC are useless the old boiler broke down in her Defender it was only the auxiliery belt shredded only a 10 min job to fixe but was left stranded for over eight hours for recovery. You are lucky to never had the need to call them out or you would still be waiting. 2013 FL2 XS.

I have always used the AA since 1968.
I changed then from the RAC when they failed to fix a misfire on my (new) Vauxhall Victor 2000 Estate (outside Dover) as I travelled back to Germany and then provided me with some useless (pre-paid) vouchers for a hotel in Belgium. The customer support was appalling.

I have always had good service from the AA and they have always solved the problem.

Some Examples

Found and fitted a new alternator to a motor caravan in the remote Highlands of Scotland

Recovered same M/van from North Wales to garage near home and us to home. (My M/van travelled
faster than I ever drove it, down the M5, on the back of the recovery lorry)

Recovered Dolomite Sprint with a blown up engine from Newbury to home garage

and many other times including diagnosing/taking to dealer my FL2 under the LR Extended Warranty Scheme. The AA have special LR Trained Mobile Units out on the road and their diagnosis supports Warranty work and gets you into Dealer/Warranty System.

I would recommend the AA.

PS Remember that all these breakdowns have taken a lot of years to accumulate, I have been driving
since 1961 ---- I am not overly unlucky FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 82k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Thing is with most breakdown providers they cover the car rather than the driver, so if you have a number of vehicles it can be costly where as the AA and RAC will cover the Driver. 2013 FL2 XS.
