United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e HSE Manual Stornoway Grey
Error codes galore and reduced engine performance today.

Hi everyone new to the group purchased a friends high millage Freelander 2 TD4.e 2009 manual.

I noticed that occasionally she was not as perky on acceleration so plugged my cheep OBD in and it came up with loads of errors.

I reset them and they immediately came back.
Then today it popped up on the dash with "Reduced Engine Performance"
I turned the car off and on and it worked fine again.
I am getting 30MPG round town and have no odd noises or smoke.

Any ideas people?

A bit of background history would be useful, has it been serviced regularly, when and what has been disturbed lately.

Is it always exactly the same errors that show up, they look random on several different systems to me.
That leads me to think the battery may be on its way out.

On the FL2, the 12v battery will cause random errors during the starting procedure as it starves modules of power during their load procedures.

If the Battery is much more than a couple of years old it might be worth getting a new one.

(or one of the Bus systems has been damaged (perhaps)) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 82k+ miles) (MY2015)

(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Hi.
Yes it's been serviced every year.
Nothing in the past 12 months has been replaced.
The battery has recently been replaced as it died after sitting for a couple of months.

It's always the same error codes.
The thing that's odd to me is that you can clear the codes with the ignition on and they come back after a rescan meeting it's seeing the errors before it's started.

One tip that I would give is to get something like an Autel AP200 OBD2 code reader. I had a similar issue to you in that I was clearing codes with the Torque app, only for them to be instantly back onto the ECU. I got someone with an Autel to do the same job and not only did most of the codes clear, but they stayed cleared and only left the genuine ones that I needed to focus on.

My conclusion was, that even though the Torque app is good, it's just sometimes just not powerful enough to do a proper job sometimes. Smile

Here's a video where I talk about the Autel AP200 in our Freelander 2:

Thanks for the info that could be the issue. I am using Torque app as well.

+1 on the AP200 - I bought one and it's been highly useful compared to my old ELM327+Torque combo - it can scan more things, and even helped with recalibrating the throttle body when I replaced mine.

Not as good as something like SDD would be (or VCDS for VAG cars, etc), but considerably more accessible!
