You can reset the FL2's BMS with hardware/software.



Is there a way to reset the BMS without the computer, like there is for EPB service mode and service indicator ("Brazilian method") ?

On some Fords , 5 headlight flashes followed by 3 presses of the brake peddle will reset the BMS - the battery icon flashes when activated.

That procedure didnt work on my FL2 though. Is there another way ? Jules

The Repair Manual (p1105) says that if you wait about 48hrs the BMS will relearn parameters of changed battery.

Battery replacement

If a new battery is fitted to the vehicle, the BMS (battery monitoring system) module will require recalibrating to register the greater charge holding capacity of the battery, this is performed using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.

If a diagnostic system is not available the BMS module will recalibrate automatically however, this could take 48 hours to complete depending on vehicle usage.

The Stop/Start system will not function correctly until the BMS module is recalibrated.

If the BMS module is replaced the module will re-calibrate automatically.

CAUTION: To avoid damage/malfunctioning of the BMS module, always use a suitable body ground point rather than the battery negative terminal when connecting a slave power supply. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

As I dont stop/start i going to just leave things be and see what happens.

As I said before if the car hadnt flagged up a "low battery" issue I would be none the wiser.

The last point is only something I became aware about 2 years ago - I wonder how many others inadvertently bypass their BMS by connecting the charger straight to the NEG battery terminal, like we did in the pre-BMS days. Jules

Bizzare…..I posted above last week…..this morning I thought I’d wash the car….covered in mud…..it had been standing for 6 days although it’s been unlocked / locked a few times. I jumped in, checked voltage , said 11.2v…..! I thought ‘it won’t start’ …..I checked voltage with my Schneider voltmeter….11.1v….!
But…..it started no problem…..except ‘ Steering Column Locked’ appeared on dash……never seen this before. The steering wasn’t locked, so I gave car à short run…..14.7v showing. Got back, stopped engine & restarted…..all ok….
Moral of the story, I think…..take no notice ( ex. safety items of course)….if it’s working ok it’s ok….

Before I changed the battery, à year ago I would sometimes get the ‘low battery’ warning on the radio display if radio/CD player had been on a while…….. haven’t seen this lately…….even if sound system has been on a while. I noticed a few years ago that if when you stop the engine you push twice on start button it keeps the sound system on, wipers & cig lighter plug on as well, otherwise thé radio /CD player would go off after 10mins…..annoying if you were listening to something.

They are quirky motors…..like a lot.

...for me that includes not washing the car. You never know what problems it will cause.. Laughing
