I have recently bought an i6 FL2 with damaged firewall insulation by some rodent (curiously hood insulator is untouched...). I've used parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com to identify the part number and I think it's LR045002 but am not 100% sure since mine is damaged beyond recognition. Can anyone confirm the part number and possible alternatives if they exist?

I wouldn't bother replacing that stuff. If you can get the bulkhead out strip that stuff off and replace it with some self adhesive heatproof insulation. I did mine years ago and think it is much better as well as being considerably cheaper.

So you've removed the metal heat shield and covered it in heat resistant sound insulation. Good idea. Is it hard to get that shielding out? Does it go out the top?

Mine was a diesel but I would imagine it would be similar. I comes out from above once the scuttle panel is removed. From what I remember it is held in place by some small nut's and bolts behind the existing insulation. Use gloves as the old insulation is a nasty skin irritant. Putting it back together with the new adhesive heatproof insulation is a lot easier than using fibre stuff.
I had to remove mine to replace the turbo and the original stuff just fell apart.

You may be right actually. Why would rodent eat that one out and not the one on the bonnet?

There is a whole topic on sound insulation / heat shield as well. Acoustic insulation is great heat shielding.

Below is link to my post (#31) where I added some actual heat shield to the firewall. Chuck out the original part & stick on some after market heat shield.

Make a template out of paper. Easiest is to sticky tape pieces of paper together. Don't be too accurate. A bit undersize is easier to position.

Also when you stick it on you do not get a second go. So position it correctly first time.
