Hi, first time posting and hoping that someone can help. I have a 2010 TD4e GS with an ABS module that I need to swap out.
Before I remove the unit I want to make sure that there are no issues with bleeding the system once the replacement unit is in, and I’m assuming I’ll need a scan tool with ABS bleeding function to do so successfully. We already have an iCarsoft LR V2 which tells me that the ABS bleed function is not supported for this particular model. I also have JLR SDD pro165 but for the life of me I can’t find the ABS bleed programme anywhere on it, the only obvious ABS functionality I can find is for programming a new module. Reading other posts and forums about SDD it seems that the ABS bleed function is SDD is either very well hidden or not there..if anyone knows how to find it I’m all ears.
So I guess my question(s) are
1) does anyone know a suitable scan tool that supports the pre-facelift cars? or
2) where the functionality is hidden in SDD? or do we need an earlier version to 165?
3) can it be done without a scan tool just using a pressure bleeder.. I’ve read a couple of posts about the pressure bleed getting you most of the way there and then getting any remaining trapped air out by activating the ABS pump with enthusiastic braking on gravel (or even by bleeding the HCU block directly by slackening and then re-tightening the output pipes - which sounds messy), tbh I’d rather know one of these methods is possible before pulling it all apart.

I changed the brake fluid on my FL2 couple of years back and accidently let the reservoir run dry but managed to get all the air out by repeatedly going round bleeding all four wheels without any diagnostic tools, but as you mention if you drive on a loose surface and activate the ABS that will work. 2013 FL2 XS.

Ive got a sealey pressure bleeder but no fluid ever comes out the caliper bleed screws...

have it pumped to 15 psi but it never works for some reason..

tried it with engine running and also pressing pedal to get the fluid moving. Never works

I have always bled the old fashioned way bleeder tube and a jar simple always works. 2013 FL2 XS.

Ive used the pressure systems in the past - great until they leak and spray brake fluid everywhere

Ive gone back to using a traditional bleed tube with a silicone tube at the end, a bung at the end and with a simple longitudinal cut which acts as a one-way valve and a jar. Works every time - just pump the peddle. Jules
