2013 SD4 - "smart key not found" - no response

hi folks - here's a bit of fun; no prior warning or any sort of pre-event error messages; went to unlock the thing this morning and no reaction to keyfob; checked battery with multimeter - 99% charge; used spare fob (also checked battery - equally fine) - still no reaction

the main battery is 8-10 months old and would seem to be in good order - exterior lights all working at full strength

unlocked with the mini-key and tried to start with the fob(s) pressed against all parts of the steering column, centre dash and housing - nothing - just a message saying 'smart key not found' - same for both of them, and repeated alarm

have checked previous threads, but cannot try the 'sit in car and lock/unlock' solution as the fob is completely unresponsive (or does that refer to manual locking ??)

any thoughts, please (thanks very much in advance) ???

Have you 2 Key Fobs, if so does the other Fob work?

Change Key Fob internal battery?

Ransoman had the same problem, but failed to let us know what happened to get going, ----- you could try PM to him.

For 3-4 months after buying our FL2 we were having all sorts of issues caused by key fobs not being recognised & needing to replace the batteries every month or so in both fobs for a quick but short lived fix.

I decided to clean/brush the circuit boards & fob+button insides with an electronics contact cleaner, this produced an immediate fix and we have not had an problem since doing this over a year ago. Current: FL2 64 plate Black SD4 Auto Metropolis
Gone: FL2 2006 Tambora Flame Orange 2.2 TD4 manual HSE - (90K KM - 268K KM, LHD in CH)

thanks for all the responses - much appreciated Very Happy

this evening, however, having sat on the drive essentially dead and unresponsive for six days, with no remedial work having been done whatsoever, the thing started up as if nothing had happened !

works with either key; gave my mate a ring who's an ex-LR mechanic (now running his own repair shop) and he's come and plugged in his fault reading gear, and it throws up the following:

RFA (keyless vehicle module):

U201F-00 External Receiver - intermittent

so - good that it's working again, but bad in that it may stop at any moment at some massively inconvenient juncture without warning - another joy to add to the long list Wink

thinking it may be worth the call out charge for a local auto-electrical 'expert' (by trusted recommendation) to get a full diagnostic in case it throws up a dodgy connection or earthing issue...
