Snow on cars

I was amazed this week driving on the motorway, how many cars driving with slabs of snow on the roof or bonnet that blew off in to the other traffic. I thought that you could get nicked for that now.

You can but people don’t seem to care as don’t the millions of uninsured and unlicensed drivers I was watching one of those cop programs the other day they caught someone who didn’t have a license or insurance never taken a test been caught 5 times he got a fine and another 8 points on a license if he ever bothers to get one.

..... and 'Curtain Side' lorry trailers, with huge sheets of ice on their roof.
When that starts to thaw and lorry turns a corner ....... off it comes.

It's the same with those mindless idiots who keep on driving with lighting faults, usually the off-side headlight, so the vehicle looks like a motorbike. On regular routes and times I see the same cars with the same lighting fault. Yonks ago our local plod used to run some publicity every autumn reminding people to check their lights, but these days they are all trawing through social media looking for anything they can make out to hate speech. RIP free speech.

To be fair how is a driver going check what’s on the roof let alone clear it off. They are not allowed on the back of the trucks now days, health and safety.

No Snow Yet -- but a couple of days ago I found that we had had freezing rain overnight and I was unable to physically open my FL2 doors, although the handles unlocked and free.
I tried carefully each door and eventually got the front passenger door to open.
Thankfully I was able to lean on the brake and start the engine.
The 'Prog' button soon had my FL2 ice clear and ready to go. (a very useful button)
I noted once more that the Heated Windscreen seems to be set to LHD and the passenger's side (L) starts to clear some time before the driver's, and the PTC Heater assisted airflow tends to beat it in clearing that side (R) of the screen.

As for Road Cameras, a couple of years ago, my car insurance company had computer problems that delayed them uploading policy renewals onto police database. Soon after my renewal I got a letter from the police asking me to send them my insurance details, within a week of using the M5 Managed Motorway around Bristol. I was amazed at the speed of the response as it was within a 2 week window of my renewal.
I am surprised anyone can drive for long periods without MOT, Insurance, etc. --- but they do. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I use the M5 regularly and I believe that there are a lot of Unmarked Police Cars of many different makes and models around, that only come to life when they are needed and tear up and down the motorway at great speed.
I don't think that looking for 'Battenburg' marked cars gives a true picture.

PS My Pet Hate is people/cars ignoring mini-roundabouts and driving across them without slowing or cutting across them on the wrong side. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Your correct Ian, there are many unmarked cars out there,

The problem with unmarked cars is they have no deterrent value, and only catch a very small proportion of idiots. The marked cars parked on the mounds at the side of the motorway or doing 60 mph in the inside lane have a much higher deterrent rate. Just mho.

Ref snow on cars. Noticed yesterday some cars with headlights covered in frost and dirty.
Was brought up to clean snow off cars and keep lights clean. Too cold here to wash, minus 6 yesterday. My other pet hate is modern cars with DRL,s on and NO tail lights. Better half says I am turning into Victor Meldrew. Enjoy the Freelander 2 while we still can. Jim A

My PTC beats the heated screen - both sides are equal but it seem slower than it used to be.

Is it possible to check the resistance - all the wires work but could the current have dropped off over time ?

Or Im just comparing it to the Fiesta, who's electric screen clears really fast without any PTC heater. Also the Fiesta's heated seats are much faster and hotter than the FL2's. Fiesta also has a lovely heated steering which my SE Tech doesnt. Jules

Many people seem not to know that auto-headlights often dont react to fog and drive around oblivious to the fact they are almost invisible especially from the rear. Evil or Very Mad Jules

I never thought of the auto headlights, I just thought that they never turned them on. I guess because we turn our lights on and off I assumed that everyone else did.
