fuel gauge at half but tank is full

Waiting at some traffic lights the other day, the fuel gauge was at half, at the next set of lights, while waiting the gauge dropped to empty and the light came on, now panicking, found a fuel station, refuelled to the top but the gauge only showed half. any ideas please

Suggest you use the 'Search' facility. It shows a lot of info on this problem. 11 GS Bali Blue
07 GS FL2. Usually muddy. Gone
Numerous LRs since 1963
