Hi all,
I'm very much hoping that someone can shed some light on some electrical oddities which have been growing in number on my 2009 XS and are starting to drive me to drink.
Before I get into things, I should confess to having 'fiddled' a lot with the car in ways which may or may not impact things (and therefore probably deserve the situation I'm in!).
I have done the following electricallyish things: -
Facelifted the car (original mk1 halogens changed to mk3 halogen projectors without signiture strip but with LED sidelight cluster, mk1 rear lights changed to mk3 rear lights - both of these done with the powerful uk looms
Headlights are fitted with some questionably legal philips ultinon pro led bulbs
LED interior lights all round (from powerful uk again)
Original seats (electric, no memory) swapped with mk3 HSE seats (electric, with memory)
Fitted the XTRONS head unit in place of the sat nav which uses the dash illumination wire on the dash facia to try to dim the XTRONs headunit when the lights are on - it's ALWAYS done this poorly
The major thing which is bugging me is a flickering of the DRL led cluster (wired to the sidelights connection via the poweful UK loom). After having a fiddle with this I notice I seem to be getting a varying power signal to this from the car (I can remove the new loom and see this is still happening).
Other oddities: -
Interior ceiling lights are always on, but very dim when doors are closed
XTRONS dimming (taken from the interior illumination) comes on and off, again like the power is fluctuating.
Powerful UK have been helpful but as the power fluctiation happens outside their loom, they can do little to help. They suggested putting a capacitor infront of the DRL cluster, to prevent the flicker however they can't tell me what sort of capactior, nor which ground to use as the earth (there are 5 on the loom).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to diagnose or who would be the right person to take the car to for diagnosis? Should it be an autoelectrician or mechanic? Would a mongose-type cable and PC help me diagnose anything further?
Thanks
