I did ask our of curiosity how old it was and they said that they could not find a a date on it, it was a yussa battery. They put a reader machine on it and said although fully charged it only had 40% capacity, so it was no good. Normal garage was shut for Xmas till 6 jan so not a lot of choice. |

How long have you had the FL2 and i presume it was the same battery when you purchased the car so that gives you idea of how old the battery is |

We have had the freelander about 3.5 years now. To be fair the battery does do a lot of sitting around not being used as the freelander is basically used to tow the caravan, not a shopping or daily ride. I guess the battery has to be a few years old at least. Just luck of the draw |

It may pay for you to invest in a trickle charger, if the FL2 is sitting for long periods, or give it a couple of good runs during the week. |

I do try to remember to put the smart charger on regularly, but yes a little trickle charger on all the time would be better. Just remember to unplug before driving off.🤣 |

In an earlier post (that I can't find) Jules reminded us that we should always connect to a chassis earth and not the battery negative terminal as the Battery Management System needs to know how much is going into, and out, of the battery.

Oh right. So if putting those permanent leads on , one would go on the battery and the other on the metal work somewhere ? |

The handbook says remove battery before charging to protect car systems. ????

My battery failed last week, 2 months outside of its 4 year warranty. Lots of random error codes were showing and the key fob wouldn't come out of the dock. A new battery fixed everything and it starts fine now.

It did cross my mind when they said that they was unable to see the age of the battery and they used to sell that brand, it was because they didn’t want to be involved in a claim. |
