Dead Td4 2,2L ?

Hi !
My better half was out with her FL2 yesterday when it suddenly died !
Towed it home and today we have read the error codes and deleted them, now it´s clean but will not start anyway ?
It´s cranking but that´s it. Big Cry

A failed crank sensor doesn’t always leave any codes. Known to fail, not expensive, and easy to change.

Yes it will. Same happened to me a couple of months ago. No codes but changed crank sensor which I keep in stock due to other people on this forum suffering the same problem. Only need a 10mm socket or spanner, and it's a 15 min job if you remove the wheel for better access, though others don't even do that lol.

I suppose the ECU doesnt know the crankshaft position sensor isnt working until the engine cranks over and the ECU dosent receive a signal from the sensor. Jules

An easy test of the crank sensor is to see if the tacho reads around 250rpm when cranking. If it does then the sensor is likely to be ok, if not, renew it with an oem one.
It is also prudent to check/inspect the connector wiring & contacts. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

There must be 100 possible reasons for the motor to “conk-out” on the road…..
I would say that you need to “go back to basics”……check …..is there fuel, the correct fuel, is everything ok regarding timing…….camshaft etc………could be one of many sensors giving trouble, check for fuel at injectors……..
What fault codes were detected..? One or more should give a clue……
It’s a matter of working through this bit by bit …..otherwise you’re just guessing…….

Best of luck…

If it hadn’t been raining cats and dogs today my plan was to see if there’s fuel to the injectors, but it was raining both cats and dogs today ! Rolling Eyes
Filter was changed last service and I will check when and what type it is tomorrow!
