I’m looking to acquire a solar powered trickle charger to keep my vehicle in top condition irrespective of short journeys which do not replace the battery charge taken out by starting it and doing the short journeys

I am not sure those small panels give a lot especially on cloudy winter days, we use large free standing panels on our caravan which we move during the day to get the most out of it and that drops big time in shade or clouds. May be look for as large a panel as you can fit up , victron make good contrlers for the panel to get the most out of the panel.

Get C-Tek mains charger uses almost 0 power and keeps battery 100% mine is on all the time. once battery is full it trickels well worth it. 2013 FL2 XS.

Not everyone has the luxury of mains power. I am using an Oxford solar motorbike trickle charger for my ride on mower at my lake. Yes I have mains power there, but I turn it off for obvious reasons when not there. I have 2 CTEK chargers for home use, which are brilliant. Seems the OP is looking for n non mains solution. Sorry I have no experience of charging car batteries via solar. Interested to follow the discussion though.

We have wires connected to the battery all the time and connect them to the solar when needed with mc4 connectors, think that is the name. 12 volt planet sells them. Quite a good place for information as well.

As my situation has changed im going to give a plug in solar panel a try as we are in a very sunny sot ans ee how it goes if not effective will get the mains version.

these days of being disabled everthing must suit a one armed poorly walking man sadly.

Think you need at least a 20-40 watt solar panal to at least compensate for the battery drain when locked.

Hi, not sure if this is any help with one hand. 12v planet also sell with the connector are plastic ring spanner looking thing. It hooks over the cable then it slides up the connector and pushes the clips in so it pulls apart. Hope that makes sense.
