I would agree, it might take me a couple of hours to get it out due to first time and carefully label the cables or photo them , but in 15 hours you should be able to rebuild it and plonk it back in my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Just out of interest, how much should a new cam belt, fitted, cost?

I paid £158 for Gates parts in 2021 which included cambelt, FEAD belt, water pump, all idler and tension pulley and crank shaft bolt and coolant.
So maybe around £200 now.
As I did it myself I also bought the flywheel timing pins and locking device - another £25 IIRC

Then the labour - quite variable so ask around - but its a straight forward job on a very common engine - a day max I'd have thought. Jules

I took it to J&E motors in Speke, Liverpool, who passed it on to Rugged 4X4 across the way - paid £1950 for:
strip top end of engine, replace rockers and tappets, replace various gaskets, fit new timing belt and water pump.
I don't have the skills to do the work myself, and don't have any friends who do either! Several people advised scrapping it, but I'm really glad I didn't - back running now, thank goodness.
Thanks for all the input from everyone - much appreciated!

I paid over £1000 about 25 years ago to have similar done to a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 for the same reason. So that sounds about right to me. Glad it’s all sorted and that you are pleased with it!
