What to pair with Goodyear Wranglers HP All Weathers? | |
Managed to get myself into an annoying situation. When my FL2 was in the garage with engine failure the mechanic told me that my front tyres needed replacing too. So we agreed that he's replace them to match the rears and a new pair of Goodyear Wrangler HP All Weathers went on.
A month later it's in for service and MOT and the rears need replacing too (thanks for not mentioning it a month earlier). Except he says "they're still legal, I'll let you get them done elsewhere so you can get them cheaper".
Now I'm coming to do that I can't find 235 55 R19 105V Goodyear Wrangler HP All Weather's anywhere. They look to be discontinued (at least in this size). The garage have been top notch over the years, so I'm not going to hold this against them.
But I'm left with a quandary, the 2 wranglers on the front are virtually brand new, so I'm not about to replace them and I'm not in the mood to try to sell them either. I need to find something that's a suitable substitute for the rear wheels.
Any advice on what would be an OK option to have on the rear that pair reasonably well with the Wrangler HP All Weathers on the front? I'm at a bit of a loss.
I've been researching and options that have come up include:
* Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV (treat pattern is very different but performance looks great)
* Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season (seems to have similar treat pattern to the Wranglers, read a few things here that suggest they're overrated, but generally they seem to review well)
* Avon AS7 All Season
* Vredestein Quatrac Pro
* Continental AllSeasonContact 2
Whatever the suggestion, it needs to be available in 235 55 R19 105V.
Also worth knowing that the previous tyres I had on the front that urgently needed replacing were Continental somethings, they'd only managed to last 10,000 where as we'd got substantially more out of the Wranglers before that. So I'm looking for something harder wearing than that.
Originally I'd gone for the Wranglers as I was under the impression they were a good balance of all season performance on road and light off road use. In reality we've not had the need to take it off road more than the odd field based car park, and we're unlikely to again for the duration of these tyres. So more of a UK road bias would be fine, except for the fact that they need to pair well with the Wranglers on the front.

First off, it's suggested that new tyres always go on the back, so the garage should really have swapped them front to back.
However I found that Wrangler HP AW are really pretty good, which is why LR often used them from the factory.
I suspect they're not discontinued, just out of stock. Tyre manufacturers tend to batch manufacturer a specific style and size, and have to guess how many of each size and style to make. If they don't make enough, then supplies can run low or be exhausted altogether.
It seems you can get some sent out, and get them fitted locally, so keeping the same tyres all round. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
