2010 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver
P0744(68) error

Getting the below when accelerating and then limp mode, presumably to reduce power to avoid damaging the torque converter.

P0744(6Cool
Raw code: 074468
ECU: Transmission control unit
Status: Test failed, Test failed (current drive cycle), Pending, Test failed since last DTC clear
Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid - circuit intermittent

Thoughts on if the solenoid is sticking, so clean ATF might fix it, or if the solenoid is faulty or if it could be a poor connection to it?

Is it possible to clean/fix/replace that solenoid, without removing box?

Thanks all.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

From Repair Manual

P0744-68

Description
Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit intermittent

Possible Cause
Engine stalled
Mechanical fault in engine

Action
Carry out a complete read for related engine DTCs. Rectify as necessary

In practice it is most likely telling you of problems in the Autobox Valve Chamber that controls the gear changing and lock up. Maybe debris in the oil chambers or just gunge in oil.

This video suggests gearbox oil change is the first thing to try, then follows with other problems.

Thanks for the pointers. Engine did go into limp mode at same time, poss due to fueling issue. I'd already seen that video and was considering changing the ATF but just wondered if there was a possibility that the solenoid might be checkable in some way first.
Cheers, Andy
