England 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Biscay Blue

New camshaft and crankshaft sensors are in and no improvement. Actually cut out when cranking this morning! Time for a new car I think 😞

The Freelander has been back in the garage for something else this time, however the mechanic ran further tests on my starting issue.

Turns out the EGR was sending dodgy readings to the ECU.

I've had the EGR deleted in a remap, and essentially fully closed the valve. Picked up the car yesterday evening, and this morning there is definitely some improvement. No longer smokes on start up but still splutters somewhat - albeit better than before.

It had sat at the garage for a week though, so battery voltage was only 12.3. Will give it a good charge and try again tomorrow. For reference, the batter is two years old and was the biggest one I could get.

Fingers crossed!!

United Kingdom

This time of year - glow plugs?
She will use the glow plugs to start, and then keeps them on for a while to aid warm-up, and emmissions.

Could be one is failing/has failed, she will still start but will cough for a few 10's of seconds. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Hi

Egr delete and a battery charge hasn’t fixed the problem. More wasted money sadly

It’s had four new decent branded glow plugs and a new glow plug control module already and not sadly not worked.
