No more BMW

I loved my BMW:

But I had to say goodbye to it today.

Instead, I drove off in a car with just a few kilometres on the clock:

And here she is:

... a very worthy replacement to my BMW. A thoroughly drivable and beautiful car.

I missed my BMW 3-series the day I swapped her in for my FL2 in Nov. 2007. But not no more Thumbs Up and from day 2 of LR ownership.

However I do have several niggely things that the FL2 dosnt have and the BMW did have, but one gets used to these cosmetic differences in time, as the rest is a joy to own Thumbs Up

The FL2 is without doubt is the best vehicle I have owned, and so far Zero problems Very Happy 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

I got my BMW in May 2005, one of the first with the new model in Brussels - and therefore, got quite a few admiring looks. I was very pleased with it. However, as my kids grow towards adult size, I realised I needed a car with a bit more legroom in the back.

I considered various options, but ruled them out. Never liked the 'new' BMW-5; tried the Audi A6 but found it disappointing; always found Mercs a bit too bling for me. Had not considered a 4x4 at all - being a bit against them for urban use. However, someone suggested I try the FL2. I did, and loved it. And I find it as luxurious as the others I've mentioned.

Thoughts after 10 days and a couple more pics:

After nearly 2 weeks, my first impressions:
Very nice to drive (surprise?). At first, it felt a bit firmer than I expected, but now seems smoother. don't know if the change is real for a new car, or just psychological.
Like the Stop/Start. Takes a little getting use to. In shifting traffic, easy to disengage. Great for when you pull over to drop someone off or check the map. It stops.
Managing 7.5l/100km for most trips on mix of roads. More for morning drive to work. (Manual)
Choices I'm pleased with:
- mud flaps smoothly blend into the car - not just 'flaps'
- side strips look fine to me. Though not 'go-faster' stripes, they integrate well enough with the black strip along the base, and the black line of the windows/ door handles. And provides a little more peace of mind in car parks.
- body colour wing mirror caps.
- smoker's kit (though not a smoker) - for a little extra storage! The lack of cubby box remains the biggest oversight of the designers (as many complain)
- Panoramic sun roof
