ABS Pump

Hi all, I’m new here so apologies if this has been covered before. I have a 2012 td4 HSE 2.2 and have had the dreaded HDC fault, Terrain System Unavailable and ABS light come on. The local garage have looked at it and say the ABS pump has failed (I’ve used the garage for 40 years and trust them)… apparently the replacement part from Landrover is £2,300!!! The garage suggested sending it away for repair (at an estimated £600) but it has just been returned to them saying it was unable to be repaired. So as a novice, I guess the questions are: are there loads of different types of pump or are they fairly standard across the Freelander range? Is it possible to get a secondhand one? Do they need coding to the VIN number? Do I just bite the bullet and fork out for the new pump? Or is it a case of selling the car for spares or repair? The car is in good condition and only has 62,000 miles on the clock. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Daft questions. Is this happening when you start the car or after the engine is running? Have you checked the battery condition? An under par battery will not power up the ABS pump before the self check is complete leading to the error messages which should clear once the engine is running.

No, I’m afraid it’s all the time… I also had the AA plug their machine in too which also picked up the same fault codes 😩 In fact, I drove it for about 4 or 5 days with the warning lights/messages and then it also developed an engine malfunction and went onto 3 cylinders… which I’m hoping was just the car throwing a wobbler and putting itself into some kind of limp mode. After switching it off and leaving it overnight it started up ok.

Have a look at this thread.

It looks as if pumps are similar across the years and it is possible (but difficult if you read to the end of the thread) to have the cars vin put on a secondhand pump.
